St. David the Righteous of Euboea (Evia): When David was 3 years old, he saw St John the Baptist in a vision. St John took his hand & went together to a chapel dedicated to him. St John went into his icon & the young David went on his knees & prayed upon it for hours....Miracle worker, healer a "flying saint" aka levitation. He prayed reverently to the Lord & the Blessed Mother who provided him spiritual gifts. Many miracles occurred after his death when the faithful pray upon his relics…
One of five full-page miniatures from the Barlow Psalter (c.1321-38), one of a group of early 14th-century Fenland MSS (see Image 468). This page depicts: the death of the Virgin (bottom left); Mary being assumed into heaven, carried by angels in a mandorla; Christ blessing the crowned Virgin Mary, flanked by figures of St John the Evangelist (with eagle) and St John the Baptist (with lamb).
The dormition, assumption, and coronation of the Virgin Mary from the Ramsey Psalter, a tenth century illuminated English manuscript. Note the similitude between the dormition scene in the bottom left pane and the Byzantine form. (And yes, my Roman Catholic brothers and sisters, Mary's "falling asleep" depicted here is natural death as indicated by her separated soul preserved in the arms of her Son.)
