John R. "Johnny" Cash (2/26/32-9/12/03) was born in Kingsland, Arkansas, the son of Ray Cash & Carrie Cloveree (née Rivers). In March 1935, when Cash was 3, the family settled in Dyess, AR. Johnny Cash and his older brother, Jack, in 1936. Jack died at age 15 in a sawmill accident. Johnny Cash's name was plain J.R. until he enlisted in the air force. They didn't allow plain initials, so he chose the name John.
