This stunning modern looking portrait of Annie Philpot, was taken by the Victorian lady Julia Margaret Cameron (1815-79) in 1864. Cameron was perhaps the most famous and influential portrait photographer of the 19th century.
Julia Margaret Cameron did everything a Victorian photographer was NOT supposed to do, including being a woman. The results of her work are astonishingly clear and look as though they may have been taken yesterday. There are none of the usual stiff, uncomfortable poses to be found here.
