Knights Templar motto: Non nobis Domine, non nobis, sed nomini tuo da gloriam (Not to us Lord, not to us, but to Your Name give the glory). Templar Knights promotes spirituality and encourage noble ideals of chivalry.
The first headquarters of the Knights Templar, on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The Crusaders called it the Temple of Solomon and it was from this location that the Knights took their name of Templar.
Godfrey de Saint-Omer and eight other knights was the first group of knights in the Order. They had few financial resources and relied on donations to survive. Their emblem was of two knights riding on a single horse, emphasising the Order's poverty. Around 1129 the Order was officially endorsed by the Catholic Church. The man who has been called "The Greatest Knight" - This is a casting of Knight Templar Sir William Marshal's effigy from his tomb at Temple Church, London. It was taken by the Victoria & Albert Museum before damage was done to the original during WWII bombing. His is one of the 5 attributed of the 9 effigies at Temple Church. Templar Seals: The Templars' existence was tied closely to the Crusades; when the Holy Land was lost, support for the Order faded. Rumours about the Templars' secret initiation ceremony created mistrust and King Philip IV of France, deeply in debt to the Order, took advantage of the situation. In 1307, many of the Order's members in France were arrested, tortured into giving false confessions, and then burned at the stake.
