One of the most important battles in the Midterm Elections is the U.S. Senate race in Louisiana. If we can win this seat - and defeat Democrat incumbent Mary Landrieu - we will be on our way to ending Harry Reid's term as Majority leader... as Democrats will likely then be in the minority. But we have a problem - there is a battle shaping up to see which Republican candidate will be the one to defeat Mary Landrieu.
11/17/13 A Louisiana election that would have diverted library funding to jails was defeated Saturday. Lafourche Parish Council Chair Lindel Toups, referring to a Spanish-language section of one of the libraries,“ Let that son of a bitch go back to Mexico. There’s just so many things they’re doing that I don’t agree with." Laura Sanders, director of the library system, says the jail is in a deplorable state but the library shouldn't foot the bill for construction & 30 yrs of operation.
Pierre Caliste Landry (19 April 1841-22 December 1921), a former slave, was elected Mayor of Donaldsonville in 1868, he became the first African American mayor in the United States. He is also credited with the founding of St. Peter’s Methodist Church in Donaldsonville. Landry went on to win election to both the Louisiana House of Representatives and the Louisiana State Senate.
