Hypoxia is a condition which means the body has an inadequate oxygen supply. Early symptoms of hypoxia include restlessness, anxiety, tachycardia and tachypnea. When inadequacy of oxygen supply is prolonged, late symptoms include bradycardia, extreme restlessness and dyspnea. In pediatrics, the symptoms of hypoxia can be easily remembered with the acronym FINES – feeding difficulty, inspiratory stridor, nares flare, expiratory grunting and sterna retractions.
