newseum: On August 5, 1962, the 36-year-old actress Marilyn Monroe was found dead at home in Los Angeles. Her death was ruled a “probably suicide” by L.A. police. Widely publicized reports indicated she was found in the nude, face down on her bed with a telephone in hand with empty pill bottles nearby.
Marilyn Monroe’s funeral was arranged by her second husband, Joe DiMaggio. It was a small service, with only close family and friends attending. She was buried in what was known as “the Cadillac of caskets”, made of solid bronze and lined with champagne colored silk. Police were present to keep the press and public away from the funeral. They are seen guarding her casket in this print. Find it at http://www.photosalon.com/store/people/marilyn-monroe/2638970.html
