“It was embarrassing not making that (varsity) team. They posted the roster & it was there for a long, long time w/o my name on it. I remember being really mad too, because there was a guy that made it that really wasn’t as good as me. Whenever I was working out & got tired & figured I ought to stop, I’d close my eyes and see that list in the locker room without my name on it. That usually got me going again.”
A Michael Jordan Tribute. Jordan played basketball for Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina. Ironically, Jordan was cut from the varsity team as a sophomore. Instead of giving up after failing to make the team, Jordan used it to spur himself to greater achievements, practicing hour after hour on the court.
"From the moment he set foot on an NBA court, Michael Jordan dominated his sport like few athletes ever had. He electrified crowds with his skill and style. He turned the Chicago Bulls into a dynasty with 6 championships in 8 years...Not bad for a player who was once cut from his high school team." ~Basketball Hall of Fame, 2009~ https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Art-of-Learning/402701759761659
