Frances Xavier Cabrini (Mother Cabrini) came to work in the United States to help the many Italian immigrants in New York City. She founded schools, hospitals and orphanages in New York, across the U.S. and in South America.
In 1906, Mother Cabrini bought 120 acres in Burbank, CA that was lined with grape vines and olive trees. On the site, Mother Cabrini opened a summer house for children who were at risk for tuberculosis. In 1933 the preventorium became Villa Cabrini Academy-a school for girls.... closed in the 1970s.
