CH.8 Lake Superior & Ch 14 Shipwrecks- The average depth of Lake Superior is about 500 feet. It is the deepest (1,335 feet) of the Great Lakes. If you go swimming there in the hottest part of the summer, you'll soon learn that Lake Superior is also the coldest of the Great Lakes
Pure Michigan is the travel and tourism site for Michigan and has great resources to plan a visit and learn about the area. We loved Sleeping Bear Dunes, Mackinac Island, and the Upper Peninsula area on Lake Superior. GMA voted Sleeping Bear Dunes the most beautiful place in America in August and we totally agree. It's a long trip from certain parts of the US- but plan a trip just like you would to the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone- it's just beautiful with lots to do and see!
