People from western Asia established themselves among the Egyptian inhabitants of the eastern Nile Delta at the time. The northern "Hyksos" culture combined Egyptian and Middle Bronze Age Levantine traditions. This diadem has Near Eastern affinities and is typical of the commingling of artistic styles.

Lost treasures of sunken cities to go on show after more than 1,000 years submerged in the waters of the Nile delta.  Strapped in: A diver secures a 5.4m statue of Hapy, a divine personification of the Nile floods, to be lifted out of the waters. The colossal red granite carving will one of the exhibition's centrepieces. The six-tonne statue, which dates to the 4th Century BC is the largest known example of a Hapy statue.

Neferhotep I - Whether Neferhotep I usurped the throne at the expense of Sobekhotep III or inherited it, he possibly acceded to power over a fragmented Egypt.
