Joseph Eichler (1900–1974) developed and built mid-century homes. They featured now-iconic, advanced designs of open interior spaces, sliding doors, and large expanses of glass windows. Advocating modern architecture for general public availability, Eichler homes had two bathrooms, radiant heated floors, and post-and-beam construction, while most postwar tract homes had only one bathroom, wall radiators and traditional framing. This example with clerestory windows is in Orange, California.
