Bronchiolitis obliterans with organizing pneumonia (BOOP). Polypoid plugs of loose fibrous tissue are present in a bronchiole and the adjacent alveolar ducts and alveoli.
The characteristic features are a combination of patchy interstitial chronic inflammation, Bronchiolitis Obliterans Organizing Pneumonia (BOOP) and poorly formed interstitial granulomas. Taken together, these features are highly suggestive of extrinsic allergic alveolitis and should prompt clinical investigation of possible exposures in the environment.
