Marine LCpl. Alec R. Terwiske, 21, of Dubois, Indiana. Died September 3, 2012, serving during Operation Enduring Freedom. Assigned to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California. His parent command was Inspector/Instructor Staff, 4th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve, Fort Knox, Kentucky. Died in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, while conducting combat operations.
Marine Cpl. Richard A. Rivera, Jr., 20, of Ventura, California. Died August 10, 2012, serving during Operation Enduring Freedom. Assigned to 3rd Bn, 8th Marine Regt, 2nd Marine Div, II Marine Expeditionary Force. Parent command 3rd Bn, 3rd Marine Regt, 3rd Marine Div, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Kaneohe Bay, HI. Died when hit by small-arms fire from an Afghan police officer who was part of a unit he was training in a so-called Green-on-Blue attack in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
On 1 May 1996, the Luftwaffe established the German Air Force Tactical Training Center (TTC) in concert with the United States Air Force 20th Fighter Squadron at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico, which provides aircrew training in the F-4F Phantom II. The TTC serves as the parent command for two German air crew training squadrons.
