Middle school students using an iPad to magnify and project a model of an aquifer so that the entire science class can participate in the experiment. This is just one small (but significant) way that PDS uses technology to enhance the classroom experience. (Thank you Laura Graceffa for taking this photo and for bringing such fabulous technology into your classroom!)

During science experiments, teachers could allow students to use this magnification application. This will enable students to see up close without using a microscope. This also allows multiple students to look at magnified items instead of one individual.

Welcome to Poughkeepsie Day School When a group of parents and Vassar College educators joined forces in 1934 to found Poughkeepsie Day School, they envisioned a place where students are valued as individuals, learning is active and hands-on and the curriculum reflects the best thinking and research in education.

Poughkeepsie Day School develops educated global citizens with a passion for learning, leading and living using relevant and active learning that involves real-world experiences.

Dorothy Luongo works at Poughkeepsie Day School, with which Seeger has a connection. He opened with “We Shall Overcome,” a song with special meaning for Luongo. “We do a peacemakers event once a year - everybody sings that, so it’s very special to go back to the roots." In 1949 Seeger performed for the 4th, 5th & 6th grades at a Poughkeepsie Day School concert to benefit Peoples Songs Inc., - founded in 1945 with the belief that folk music could be an effective force for social change.

Pete Seeger took to the stage of the Paramount Theatre in Peekskill Sunday. Seeger, Lorre Wyatt, Guy Davis, and friends played a benefit concert for WAMC.

In Memory of Polly Many will remember the adorable French Bulldog named Polly who visited Poughkeepsie Day School in her little cart. Her family just let us know that she passed on, and shared her remarkable and touching story. Look for the complete tale soon (we'll post a link), but in the meantime, this song is for you Polly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnL1e4-NfaA

CritterKin Moment #12 This is 14-year-old Polly. She comes to us from Poughkeepsie Day School where she recently visited with her new family. Polly has had an eventful life. She was a hospital therapy dog for eight years, and now needs a cart to get around. But that didn’t stop her from visiting with each and every child in the class.
