Following Houston's acquitall, Jennings joined an outlaw band. In 1897 the group, robbed trains and general stores. Jennings was captured in December, 1897. Jennings was sentenced to life in prison, but, with the legal efforts of his brother John, he was freed in 1902 and received a presidential pardon in 1907.
