Micro Apartments at the Providence Mall! - America’s first shopping mall, a 3 story structure in the Greek revival style, opened in Providence in 1828. Nearly razed in 1944, preservationists saved it, but it eventually closed. In 2013, the Northeast Collaborative Architects, redid the retail floor and turned the second and third floor into micro apartments (ranging in size from 225 to 300 square feet) Rents start at $550 a month and there is already a waiting list!
Micro-apartment in the Arcade Providence, the oldest mall in the US, which has been repurposed into combined retail and housing. Layout is similar to shipping container housing and shotgun homes, except with no range to cook with in the mini-kitchen.
