I believe that classrooms need to be a place for all students to feel comfortable. I know that any environment where there is stress can make students uncomfortable. I want my students to know that if they need a place to calm down, relax, and take a few minutes to themselves they have that opportunity in my room. An area like this would also be a fun place for students to read a book.
How do you help students work through their emotions when they are angry in class? I have started using this cool down center as a classroom management tool and an immediate way for students to relax and calm down. Check it out at http://LivingLearningLeedy.wordpress.com
Yoga……aaaaah……relaxation. School assignments……uuuummmm……a little stressful? Could one possibly help with success in the other? I think so! Here’s an idea: use these posters at stations around your room. Place a math problem, a reading passage, or a challenge in any subject that you choose at each station with the yoga posters. Assignments? Easy-peasy now!
Our free choice center sign. The kids use their clothespin with their name on it from the behavior chart to sign up. They have to put their name on a dot by the center they want to go to. When the dots are full, then that center is full.

This Relaxation Station/Scratch Pad is like a tropical vacation with the fancy umbrella drinks 'cause it's 2ftx2ft & 1inch high. It has no tall post, so super compfy for me. You can even put my bed on top of it & I will still be able to scratch the sides. Check it out at www.postzzz.com
