The Romanichal Gypsy (Roma or Rom) is often a character at Renaissance faires because they are a Romani sub-group in the United Kingdom and other parts of the English-speaking world. Romanichals are thought to have arrived in England in the 16th century. The Romani are an ethnicity of Indian origin, with their largest concentrated populations in Central and Eastern Europe and Anatolia, Iberia, and Southern France. The Rom in Southern France originated Flamenco music.
