While Bowie never actually lived in Japan, it's not hard to see how much of an influence Japanese culture has bore on him and his work. For instance, Bowie's kabuki-inspired costumes for his 1973 Aladdin Sade tour, designed by Japanese contemporary avant garde designer Kansai Yamamoto, borrowed extensively from the hikinuki concept of rapid costume changes on stage.
