Painting the ceiling this weekend? Spare a thought for the man who created the Sistine Chapel
Animation Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel ceiling How can man get back to paradise? That’s pretty much the story of Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. But in terms of beauty, the thing I think still makes an impact when you take away everything you can look up in books is the amazing, distorted animation of what you’re seeing. The animation of tremendous knees, frowns, foreheads, hair like the turbulent sea –a constant twisting, writhing, muscular movement.
Sistine Chapel - Rome, Italy The Sistine Chapel is the best-known chapel of the Apostolic Palace, the official residence of the Pope in the Vatican City. It is famous for its architecture and its decoration by Renaissance artists including Michelangelo. Michelangelo painted 12,000 sq ft of the chapel ceiling between 1508 and 1512. The ceiling, and especially The Last Judgment (1535–1541), is widely believed to be Michelangelo's crowning achievement in painting.
