"Smoky Joe" Williams - During the first half of its existence, Smokey Joe Williams was to black baseball what Satchel Paige was to the latter half. With a fastball that earned him the nicknames "Cyclone" and "Smokey Joe," he was a dominant force in black baseball from his first appearance with the Chicago Giants in 1910 until his retirement from the Homestead Grays in 1932. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999.
