Actor Al Freeman Jr., perhaps best known for his portrayal of Nation of Islam leader Elijah Muhammad in Spike Lee's 1992 film "Malcolm X," has died, Howard University said on Aug. 10. Freeman's long career in film, television and theater included an enduring role playing police Captain Ed Hall on the TV soap opera "One Life to Live" from 1972 through 1987.
RIP - Al Freeman Jr. (March 21, 1934 - August 9, 2012). Freeman starred in Amiri Baraka's controversial play Dutchman and in the film My Sweet Charlie. He played Elijah Muhammed in Spike Lee's Malcolm X, and appeared on television in One Life to Live (winning a Daytime Emmy Award) and The Cosby Show. He also taught in the Theater Arts Department at Howard University.
