Sophia of Hanover, Princess Palatine and Electress of Brunswick-Luneburg (1630-1714) (1641 by Gerritt Honthorst), was Elisabeth-Charlotte's aunt. She gave her niece and nephew a home from 1657-1662, allowing the children to escape their father's unhappy court in the early years of his morganatic second marriage.   Elisabeth-Charlotte described this time as the happiest of her life.
