Botanical Chart by Jung, Koch & Quentell, 1891… Het bloemhoofdje wordt door velen aangezien voor een bloem, maar is feitelijk een hele verzameling kleine bloemetjes. Het bloemhoofdje van een paardenbloem bestaat uit alleen gele lintbloemen. De pappus (gereduceerde kelk) bestaat uit haren.
