The Duchess of Cambridge's powers of fashionable symbolism reached new heights this evening as she chose a patriotically red and white poppy-emblazoned dress for a reception at Buckingham Palace celebrating the achievements of Team GB's Olympic heroes.
Defending champions Great Britain won silver in the Olympic team dressage, as world champions Germany claimed gold. The British quartet - Spencer Wilton, Fiona Bigwood, Carl Hester and Charlotte Dujardin - were beaten into second by 3.334 points. Germany's Sonke Rothenberger, Dorothee Schneider, Kristina Broring-Sprehe and Isabell Werth scored 81.936 points, with Britain on 78.602. The United States won bronze
