The famous Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO. Stephen King wrote The Shining here and based it on the hotel. Ghost stories abound on the tour. Besides all that it is a beautiful and grand place to stay or visit.

The Stanley Hotel Estes Park, Colorado. Stephen King bunked in room 217 of The Stanley Hotel , and got the idea to pen what would become the classic horror novel. The hotel concierge claims that King and his wife dropped their bags in the room and came back 45 minutes later to find the suitcases had been unpacked and stowed in the closet.
