Thomas & Eileen Lonergan were stranded in the Coral Sea in 1998 while scuba diving. None of the crew or passengers noticed that the 2 had not come back. They were never found and they are presumed to have died at sea. Some of their gear was found on a beach including a diver's slate that read: "[Mo]nday Jan 26; 1998 08am. To anyone [who] can help us: We have been abandoned on A[gin]court Reef by MV Outer Edge 25 Jan 98 3pm. Please help us [come] to rescue us before we die. Help!!!"
Tom Lonergan began his career like many other footballers, he started in junior footy and slowly worked his way up to senior level. But his AFL career took a scary turn just seven games in with the Geelong Football Club. In Round 21 in 2006, Tom went back with the flight of the ball just as there were two oncoming players heading straight for him. One of them was Melbourne player Brad Miller who had turned his body at the last second and collided straight into the side of Tom.

Buddy’s big nemesis IF LANCE Franklin is to turn around an average record against Geelong then he will have to overcome old nemesis Tom Lonergan in Friday night’s preliminary final showdown at the MCG. Lonergan, 32, has been one defender that has had the upper hand in battles against the Sydney Swans superstar, with Franklin’s impact against the Cats particularly diminished in finals games. Remarkably, Franklin has taken just one mark from 29 contests when opposed to Lonergan in..
Tom Lonergan of the Cats is chaired from the field after playing his 150th match during the round six AFL match between the Collingwood Magpies and the Geelong Cats at Melbourne Cricket Ground on May 8, 2015 in Melbourne, Australia.
