Tony Bennett. In 1949, Bennett was invited on a concert tour by Bob Hope, who suggested him to use the name Tony Bennett. He was born Anthony (Antonio) Dominick Benedetto on August 3, 1926. He changed his stage name from "Joe Bari" to "Tony Bennett."
It was the platonic ideal of New Year’s Eve parties: an elegant theater with chandelier garlands; a big band; ladies in furs and sparkles; gold confetti; flowing champagne; and, most importantly, jazz standards sung by a legend and a pop star.
