Americans of African Descent are ""worthy of every right and privilege granted to other citizens of this United States of America" - Delilah L. Beasley, 1919." She was the first African Descent woman to write regularly for an integrated daily newspaper, the Oakland Tribune in 1923. She was instrumental in persuading the national press to stop using the words “*arkie” and “*igger” and began to capitalize the “N” in Negro and became an outspoken activist for civil rights.


'All Negro Comics' created by Orrin C Evans 1902 - 1971 Orrin C Evans, first job was on the Sportsman’s Magazine at age 17, and his first real newspaper experience was with the Philadelphia Tribune, the oldest black paper in the country. From there, in the early 1930s, he decided to break the color barrier and landed a writing position on the Philadelphia Record, becoming the first black writer to cover general assignments for a mainstream white newspaper in the United States.
