Psi Upsilon at University of Rochester , Rochester, NY Unknown, architect(s). From the American Architect and Building News, 1902. 6 by 7.25 inches. VG+ condition with browning around the edges and light cr. Photogravure. The Hon. William Taylor, Theta '38, in The History of the Psi Upsilon Fraternity, describes the founding of Psi Upsilon in these words: "Several students of Union College, members of the Sophomore class of 1833 and belonging to the Delphian Institute...being desirous of a more close and friendly union than afforded by that association, determined to unite themselves into a club or secret society. The first record of their meeting is in the following words: `We, the undersigned, having determined to form a secret society, and having some conversation on the subject, do now and hereby pledge our sacred honors that we will keep all that has been done and said a most profound secret and that, if we please, at or before the beginning of the next term, we will meet and form a society. `Signed: M. H. Stewart, R. Barnard, Sterling G. Hadley, Geo. W. Tuttle, Edw. Martindale, C. W. Harvey, Sam'l Goodale.'" Consequently, on the evening of November 24th, 1833, in a quaint Dutch settlement on the banks of the Mohawk River, Psi Upsilon came into being. This picture is extremely hard to find. The Greek Letter Men had a very small circulation during this time and these original photogravures only appeared in a very limited number of issues. It measures 6 by 7.25 inches. Has a mat border and foam core backing (not attached to the picture). The whole picture measures approximately 8.5 by 11 inches (with border). Extraordinary detail in this early photographic print. Delta Upsilon Houses for University of Rochester, Colgate, Amherst & Rutgers, 1902, Unknown

Delta Upsilon Houses for University of Rochester, Colgate, Amherst & Rutgers Unknown, architect(s). From the American Architect and Building News, 1902. 6 by 7.25 inches. VG+ condition with browning around the edges and light cri. Photogravure. Delta Upsilon is the sixth oldest international, all-male, college Greek-letter organization, and is the oldest non-secret fraternity in North America. Founded on November 4, 1834, at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, Delta Upsilon has initiated over 110,000 men into its brotherhood since its founding.[1] Late in the fall of 1834, twenty men from the sophomore and junior classes found ten of the best men from the freshmen class and came together in opposition to the activities of the two secret societies on the Williams campus. A meeting was called for the evening of November 4, in the Freshman Recitation Room of Old West College, a Williams College dormitory that still stands today.[2] Within four years, the ideals of an anti-secret brotherhood based on merit spread rapidly, and groups were set up at Union College in 1838, Middlebury College in 1845, and Hamilton College and Amherst College both in 1847. Today, there are over 80 DU chapters and colonies across the United States and Canada This picture is extremely hard to find.
