Norfolk & Western steam locomotive #1134 waits to be moved after almost 60 years. The Virginia Museum of Transportation announced Wednesday they will preserve the long-abandoned train along with several others. This M2 class locomotive was built in 1910.
The beautiful Norfolk & Western passenger train, the Powhatan Arrow. Built in the Roanoke shops, this J class steam engine was capable of a sustained speed of 110mph. It often exceeded 100mph along tracks beside New River. I rode this train with my Grandmother from Bluefield, WV to Roanoke, VA when I was a child. I never forgot the experience. www.batsbirdsyard.com = Bat Houses
