This book covers the battle of Gettysburg. I am not really a Civil War buff by any means, but the way Michael Shaara develops the characters and the story is so compelling. This is definitely one of my favorite books of all time.

War and Peace - Not just the big book to end all big books, War and Peace could possibly be the greatest novel ever written. There isn’t really much to say about Tolstoy’s book that hasn’t been said, other than to reiterate how incredibly important and marvelous it is.
