Bee safe wasp trap. How to make your own wasp trap for free
Add a mixture of vinegar, sugar and salt. The wasps are attracted to the sweet and sour scent yet bees don’t seem to be attracted by this sour mixture whereas a honey mix would be a fatal attractant. The down-side of this wasp trap is it also attracts and traps beneficial insects such as lacewing and hoverflies which are a natural pest control of aphids, so watch timing and usage spaces.
Wasp/hornet trap: a mason jar and a funnel. Put watered down orange juice in the jar. The wasps/hornets are attracted to the fruit juice so they'll go down the funnel but won't be able to find their way out and eventually drown. Pet and kid safe.
I saw this tip in "Country" magazine years ago and use it every year to trap yellow jackets and hornets. I have this one hanging in the grapevine. The yellow jackets like the apple juice better than the grapes. Lures them right in and they can't get out.
