Otis Redding Crash Memorial. Otis Redding Plane Crash Site Otis Redding's plane crashed into the icy waters of Lake Monona in Madison, Wisconsin in 1967. There is a memorial plaque on the roof of Monona Terrace. The plaque marks a seating area with a view of the lake, and dedicated to the memory of the "King of the Soul Singers." Redding was flying in bad weather to appear in a show in Madison when his plane went down on December 10, 1967.
