In the olden days (pre-internet, and before the advent of jeans that cost about as much as dinner) people dressed up for work. Nowadays, we have a lot more freedom to choose what we wear. But for many of us, when it comes to dressing for work, too much choice is not necessarily a good thing. Fast fashion chain New Look has compiled all the non-negotiable rules of dressing for work in one infographic.
Chapter 10: Dress can be a form of non-verbal communication. When we see someone we take short cuts by making a short evaluation about them. How someone is dressed plays a big part on how we categorize them as a person. This women is dressed in business attire so she is most likely a business woman. She is most likely highly educated and quite sophisticated. All these judgements come from what her dress communicates about herself.
