What Is Milky Way

When I clicked on this it took me to a site talking about why Sirius (and stars in general) twinkle. Which is exactly what my Astronomy book I was taking a break from was talking about. Gorgeous photo - I want to see this (in this way) in real life!

The Tornado is an unusual radio source near the center of the Milky Way Galaxy showing a number of remarkable filamentary structures influenced by the magnetic field. It is thought to be a supernova remnant, although the evidence is still inconclusive. Another unusual source is a cluster of bright, compact nebulae located in the lower right edge of the Tornado Nebula. (Note- ^^ yeah lmao I don't know what any of this means, so I'm just gonna pretend I do & continue to be in awe ☺️)

This spectacular spiral galaxy is known to astronomers as Messier 83. Colloquially, it is also called the Southern Pinwheel due to its similarity to the more northerly Pinwheel galaxy Messier 101. NASAs Spitzer Space Telescope shows us, in spectacular detail, the infrared structure of what many think of as our own Milky Way galaxys smaller cousin.

This Mind-blowing Photo of the Milky Way Shows 84 Million Stars in 9 Billion Pixels

The Milky Way - 84 Million Stars in 9 Billion Pixels via petapixel: The image is a composite of thousands of photos shot by the VISTA survey camera by Astronomers at the European Southern Observatory’s Paranal Observatory in Chile. if you were to print out this image as a standard book photograph, it would be nearly 30-feet wide and 23-feet. Here is the link to the zoomable image. http://www.eso.org/public/images/eso1242a/zoomable/ #Astronomy #Milky_Way
