Remembrance Day in Britain----November is the time of the year when we wear a red poppy in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for us during wars. The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month marks the signing of the Armistice, on 11th November 1918, to signal the end of World War One. At 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years continuous warfare.
"When you close your eyes and think of peace what do you see?" This was apparently part of the 2011 Knowledge Integration Museum Exhibition at the University of Waterloo in Canada. I love this because it speaks to our ability to envision a better world.
The Tear Drop Monument was donated by the Russian people in tribute to those lost on 9/11. The names of those lost are inscribed in the base similar to the Vietnam Wall in DC. The walkway is lined with stones donated by those in remembrance of this day. The site is directly across from the Statue of Liberty, and looking at that skyline, you truly do see what's missing.
