I dealt with that through hypnotherapy and progressive relaxation. The doctor also gave this advice: don't lay awake in bed for more than an hour, instead get up and do something monotonous that doesn't take a lot of focus or get you wound up but only do it standing - don't let yourself get comfortable. He said do that for an hour or until you get too tired and then try again. After a couple of months, all those things together finally helped me to sleep much better.
