Beautiful flowers on set with Fleur Harris

Our little models had an enchanting time surrounded by gorgeous flowers on the set of our recent photoshoot! 🌸✨ These beautiful flowers added a touch of magic to the set design and brought to life the gorgeous 'Field of Dreams' collection. Colour matching resources

Working from my own studio means I need an up to date library of colour references so I can cross check colours on samples to be able to approve them remotely. The global colour reference guide is Pantone, and I prefer to use their TCX and TPX guides, as the colours in these libraries are more muted and are well suited for fashion and homewares. #fleurharris #pantone #colour #artiststudio

I have two desks in my studio - one that my husband and I built from recycled timber where I use my computer, and one that I keep mostly clear and use for everything else - painting, checking samples, even making fairy furniture! It's an old dining table I found on a second hand website and it fits perfectly in front of the large window in my studio. It's full of imperfections so I don't have to be precious with it - I can spread out all my materials and make a big beautiful creative mess! The antique dining table that found a home in my studio

I have two desks in my studio - one that my husband and I built from recycled timber where I use my computer, and one that I keep mostly clear and use for everything else - painting, checking samples, even making fairy furniture! It's an old dining table I found on a second hand website and it fits perfectly in front of the large window in my studio. It's full of imperfections so I don't have to be precious with it - I can spread out all my materials and make a big beautiful creative mess!

I use lots of different painting mediums; oils, watercolours, acrylics - and most of them are in tubes which don't sit well on a shelf. I found some wide and shallow map drawers that I house each paint type in, but they can be hard to come by. Before I had the drawers I used shoe boxes to separate each paint type. Its shape suited a long desk which I used for both my computer and easel painting. This space served me really well for 7 years. As my artwork practice grew I eventually needed to add a second desk and more storage, so I eventually outgrew this space. This photo is from my previous studio. Originally a little bedroom in our home, at 4.2 x 2.4m wide, it was small but functional. Its shape suited a long desk which I used for both my computer and easel painting. This space served me really well for 7 years. As my artwork practice grew I eventually needed to add a second desk and more storage, so I eventually outgrew this space. Vintage trays as paint palettes - my favourite studio hack!

A close up of a vintage tray I use as my paint palettes. The ridges on their edges are great for cleaning excess paint from brushes. When I'm finished painting I don't clean my palettes, I just allow the paint to dry and add new paint over the top each time I paint - I love how the trays look when they've built up layers and layers of paint! #fleurharris #artist #studio #paint #paintinghacks 😃

Why I love lots of shelf space in my studio

I have taken over the mantlepiece in my studio to display inspiring Objets d'art and to create a home for tools I use regularly - such as brushes or painting mediums. Paint palettes

I use vintage trays as my paint palettes. The ridges from their detailed edges is great for cleaning excess paint from brushes, and they're the perfect depth to contain wet paint while being flat enough to easily hold with one hand. When I'm finished painting I don't clean my palettes, I just allow the paint to dry and add new paint over the top each time I paint - I love how the trays look when they've built up layers and layers of paint! #fleurharris #artist #studio #paint #paintinghacks

The small but mighty desk easel - a space saving hack

A foldable desk easel is a handy addition to any painters studio. Compact and lightweight, they can be easily moved around and hold a range of smaller sized easels in place well. If I need the canvas to sit up higher I just pop some books underneath the easel, but generally I find it's a perfect height when it is perched up on my desk.
