This is how I reached 17 pull-ups. I recommend you start with as wide of a grip as possible and slowly move in as you get tired. I also recommend using a hook grip. I changed Day 2 so that it was a pyramid instead of a ladder and I added 5 pushups for every pull-up in between sets and skipped my morning pushups that day.

Rapidly increase your pull up reps. Do 30 dead hanging pull ups in 3 months. You can use this system to increase your push ups too. This really works I'm already up to 18 pull ups on my first set.

Good pull-up tips. I would also add for a perfect pull-up to engage your shoulders and think of pulling the bar to your chest. I will also hang from the bar and lift my legs/knees up to do abs - builds grip strength and if you hold a pull-up position, really helps strengthen the arms/shoulders.
