An interesting study back in 2015 at the University of California San Diego, involved humans paying attention to a fake, stuffed dog that moved and made sound, in front of their own dog. They also handled a book and a plastic jack-o-lantern in the same setting. The study concluded that dogs experienced jealousy when the human was engaged with the fake dog!
