How To Prepare An Image For Image Transfer Gel Printing

For this image transfer gel print, artist Michelle (@michelle_mixedmedia) first downloaded a free vintage image from the Graphics Fairy website. She digitally edited the image to change it to a black-and-white image and also increased the contrast. Michelle then double-printed the image. To do this, she prints once and then carefully places the paper back in the printer and prints again. This builds up the amount of toner on the page. Michelle used black acrylic paint for image transfer. Top Tips For Succesful Magazine Transfers

Artist Drew Steinbrecher shares his tips for successful magazine image transfers on a Gelli Arts® gel printing plate: Roll on a thinner layer of acrylic paint. Choose an image with high contrast. Use a light touch when laying down the magazine page. Let sit for a few minutes before pulling the page up. Let the paint dry, then add more paint or matte medium to pick up the image. Let the paper sit until mostly dry, then pull the print. Magazines with glossy pages have the best results.

How To Create A Layered Image Transfer Gel Print

Transfer your own or a copyright-free image onto paper using a Gelli® printing plate and acrylic paint. Gelli Arts® artist Michelle Mixed Media let the transferred image dry for a few minutes and then painted over it with colour. Once the colours were dry, she added white paint to print onto paper using the acrylic Gelli Arts® Mini Placement Tool to align the borders for 5”x7” paper. How To Create Grungy Resist Gel Prints With Petroleum Jelly

Create grungy gel prints with the petroleum jelly resist technique. Steps: Take a colored sheet of paper or gel print and place a mask on top. Apply a THIN layer of the jelly in the open areas. Roll out some soft body acrylic paint on the Gelli Arts® printing plate and place the paper with the jelly on top. Rub well, then lift up. Use a paper towel to wipe away any excess petroleum jelly. For this video Gelli® artist Birgit Koopsen used watercolor paper for extra texture in the print. #gelliarts
