Australia - The Outback
“The Outback” is the vast, remote, arid area of Australia generally used to refer to locations that are more remote than those named "the bush" which refer to any lands outside the main urban areas. Colloquial terms refer to "beyond the Black Stump”, the “Never-Never", “back of beyond" or "back o' Bourke" The main activities are mining and tourism. The population for an area of much of Australia is less than 700,000. A large proportion of Australia's indigenous population lives in the Outback.
