Australia - Victoria

Victoria is Australia's most densely populated and its second-most populous state. The 2011 Australian census reported that Victoria had 5,354,042 people resident at the time. There was a convict settlement in 1803 in southern Port Philip bay. Much of what is now Victoria was included in the Port Phillip District in 1836 as part of New South Wales. Victoria was created a separate colony in 1851, was granted self-government in 1855 and became a state in the Commonwealth of Australia in 1901.
