(Francois) Robert “Deeks” de Castella MBE represented Australia at the 1980 Moscow Olympics in the marathon, finishing 10th. He set a marathon World Best of 2:08.18 in Fukuoka, Japan, in 1981. In 1982, he achieved one of his most famous victories in the marathon at the Brisbane Commonwealth Games. He has competed in four Olympics, four Commonwealth games and several world championships. Robert graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Biophysics  Instrumentation at Swinburne in 1983.
