A fast evergreen hedging plant with glossy dark green leaves that can form a dense hedge of up to 3 metres high. Escallonia is particularly suited to the coastal garden. It is suitable to all soils but does prefer full sun. It responds very well to clipping and flowers continuously from early summer to mid-autumn. Escallonia is one of the few hedges which will produce a respectable show of blossoms even if regularly clipped.
Photinia fraseri - little red robin. Full sun or partial shade. Fertile, well-drained neutral to alkaline soil. Evergreen, with red young growth, 30-60cm per year. Small white flowers, April and May. Frost hardy.
