The Jersey Devil inhabits the Pine Barrens in southern New Jersey and is often described as a bipedal flying creature with hooves. The most popular folklore on its origin is that it was the thirteenth child born to a Mrs. Leeds, who was so upset at yet another pregnancy that after giving birth, she ask the devil to take the newborn child. What was once a human child immediately transformed into a winged monstrosity, who ate all the other children and flew out through the chimney.
