We're studying bird's nests this month on the June nature calendar. One activity we did is attempt to build our own bird's nest.

I use this project in my "Robin's Nest" preschool storytime. It was inspired by/adapted from http://totscrafts.blogspot.com/2009/04/bird-nest-paper-plate-craft.html. The major change was to use all natural materials in the construction of the nest. Research has shown that putting out human materials (such as yarn, string, hair) are harmful to birds.

Here is a great nature activity to do with kids. Plus, it is a perfect STEM activity too. Kids collect materials from out in nature that a bird may use to build a nest and try their hand at building their own bird's nest. Includes worksheets to help you out!
