Twenty-five years ago, a tragic event claimed the lives of 31 Merchant Marines, and the Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue Swimmer Program was conceived to prevent such disasters from ever happening again. The program has been a guardian angel to many fates nearly taken by the sea.

The coast guard is a vital and important part of Alaska and our community. The Sitka Seafood Festival would like to thank the coast guard and it's family for it's continued support, and we look forward to another rescue swimmer demonstration during the Aug.9-12, 2012 festival...only one of the many demonstrations that are offered free at the festival.
